Getting to and around Kilkeel and Mourne

 
Kilkeel, Capital of the Kingdom of Mourne and a major fishing port sits on a virtual headland on the seaward side of the Mourne Mountains. kilkeel is accessible by only three roads all of which are scenic, the Newcastle Road, the Newry Road and the Hilltown Rathfriland Road which passes through the Mourne Mountains at Spelga. (Click for Map) Travel by car is well worth the effort with many beautiful views along the way.
There is an excellent bus service from Newry and Newcastle both of which connect to and from major centres in Northern Ireland, linking with the Railway system and in Newry to and from the Republic of Ireland (Click for timetables)
The Rambler bus (service 407) travels local routes through the more scenic areas and to Cranfield beach. At only £1 for adults and 50p for children it is excellent value. (Click for details)
